Strollers- Which Kind Is Best?

There are so many different types of strollers out there it is hard to know what kind is right. Do you get something lightweight or heavier, an umbrella stroller or a jogging stroller? Well, here is a basic list of the different types of baby strollers.
Umbrella Stroller
An umbrella stroller has curved double handles and they fold up easily and compactly, like an umbrella; hence the name. These are the smallest and lightest baby strollers available. They can have a cloth or vinyl seat on a basic frame with swivel wheels. Some offer features such as a canopy and a storage basket. This is a great stroller for short trips where you don’t need to bring a lot of stuff with you. But beware; they are not as sturdy as other strollers and don’t offer the same safety features. They are also not meant for children less than 6 months or children unable to sit unassisted in an upright position.
Lightweight Strollers
Lightweight strollers are mid-sized strollers that can be very basic or come with many features. There is an abundant selection of lightweight strollers, so make sure you know what your needs are before you begin to shop around. Lightweight strollers are meant for basic baby transportation like shopping, walking on paved sidewalks, etc. They are not meant for all terrain, running, or jogging. These strollers are more comfortable and practical than umbrella strollers and there is a huge selection of models and styles. There are lots of them that come with many different practical features such as a canopy, cup holders and extra storage space. Many of them may work with an infant car seat, meaning you can put the car seat in the stroller and they have good durability.
Travel System Stroller
Stroller travel systems are the ultimate in convenience for a parent with a newborn because they include the car seat, stroller, and a car seat base. They are the combination of a good-sized stroller, with an infant carrier that buckles in and out. If you are planning on only buying one stroller, this would be great because they work from birth to toddlerhood. They also have many features available like a cup holder and extra storage space. However, be aware that the weight is considered too heavy by some and the lower quality of some of these may lead you to buy something else after your baby has outgrown their infant car seat. They are also not suitable for rough terrain, running, or jogging.
Jogging and All-Terrain Strollers
These strollers are heavy duty strollers that can come with many features. More and more parents are using jogging strollers to get out of the house and exercise. A true jogging stroller is meant for serious running and has 3 large inflatable tires, with a fixed front tire. Jogging strollers are built for speed, not handling. Trying to use them for other activities such as shopping may lead to frustration and disappointment.
All-Terrain Strollers, which are also called sport strollers or sport utility strollers, are great for walking on or off paved roads. They are very durable and can handle most terrains. They also can fit through most doorways and are pretty easy to use. They can be difficult to turn if the front wheel doesn’t swivel, so you may want one with a front wheel that has the ability to turn.
Double Strollers
These strollers are great for multiple kids. Depending on the type of double stroller you get, some can accommodate an infant car seat. They can have many features and the high quality ones are pretty easy to maneuver. On the other hand, they are quite bulky and harder to carry around.
You just need to decide what you will be using the stroller for most and what features you would like. I would make a list of the most important things that you want in a stroller and go from there. You also have to realize that you might not be able to get a stroller with all the features that you want, so decide what is most important to you and your family.

A Baby Stroller For Every Purpose

If you have kids – specifically- if you have young kids -you know that having the right baby stroller for every situation is crucial. If you don’t have children, then trust me…it’s true!
I am the the father of 3 1/2 year old twins, and my wife and I learned this the hard way. Guys, listen to me very carefully. If your wife is pregnant, and you are just started to look at baby stroller options, you have to understand something very important. When it comes to strollers, they are definitely NOT “one size fits all”!
Expecting parents are often suprised to see how many types of strollers are available. I mean, lets be serious…do we really need more than just a standard stroller? Is it really necessary to have an umbrella stroller and a jogging stroller too? How much of my money do the stroller companies need?
The truth is, having children completely changes your life. You probably won’t be going many places without your baby for a while. So if you want to go ANYWHERE, you have to be flexible. Taking the right (or wrong) stroller with you can make (or break) your “outings” as a family.
When you have an infant, a snap-n-go is a great thing. You can just pop the car seat out (with your baby still sleeping soundly) and transfer it to a stroller frame. For a quick trip to the grocery store, umbrella strollers are great. They are extremely compact and lightweight, but they don’t have any cushioning, so you wouldn’t want your child to sit in one for too long. Plus, there is no storage space for a diaper bag (or a cell phone, cup of coffe, etc.)
If you are planning to stroll the mall, a standard stroller is a better choice. Much more comfortable for the child, and most of them provide room to store your stuff. They are a little more bulky and harder to open up/fold down, it is worth the effort.
When my wife first mentioned getting a jogging stroller, I actually thought she was kidding. But if you spend any length of time ALONE with your children, this is a great way to get some excercise by going for a jog AND let your little one get some fresh air at the same time. And I can tell you, most babies LOVE the movement and subtle bouncing they get while you go jogging. Its a win-win!
Anyway, I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Fortunately, my kids can walk most places now, so my stroller days are almost behing me. Oh, wait a minute…I almost forgot. Just because your kids CAN walk doesn’t mean they WILL walk! One last word of advise: If you have kids between 3 and 5, dont EVER take them to Disney World (or any amusement park) without bringing strollers. If you do, trust me, they will be on your shoulders or asking to be carried long before the park closes! So if you want to keep your back healthy, you better bring the right baby stroler.

Different Types of Double Strollers

Parents of more than one stroller-age child, you’re in luck. Double strollers are built for more than one child. They come in many forms.
As with most other stroller purchase, first decide what you are looking for. Read on to get an overview of the types available.
Double or duo strollers com in side by side passenger models, tandem models, or one sitting and one standing models. If your children are the same age any of the models will do. If one child is younger than the other, you might be best considering the tandem or one sit one stand models as these would distribute the children’s weight more evenly and be easier to push. They also would have a better balance.
The side by side duo strollers offer interaction between the babies. Consider that interaction could translate into fighting. But the children do have the same view of their world.
Double or duo strollers come in every stroller type. Naturally, the umbrella strollers are the least expensive and lightest weight. Umbrella strollers are the sling seated strollers with the two curved handles. Many new Moms get an umbrella stroller for a shower gift. Let’s hope in your case it is a double stroller.

Parents often consider choosing a mid-sized or a full-sized double stroller because these stroller types are comfortable for both the baby and the person pushing. They have lots of storage for all the baby things. They are sturdy and can last through more than one child. Some even have a standing platform for the older child. However, the full-sized double strollers’ bells and whistles can be well worth it as the seats can be fully adjustable. They have suspension that reduces the bumps from uneven ground. They have heavy-duty frames and wheels. Most full-sized duo strollers have adjustable handles that provide pushing ease for any size person. These full-sized double strollers offer wonderful comfort for the long shopping trip or the day at the zoo.
While the mid-sized duo stroller is not as luxurious as the full-sized double stroller, parents really like the mid-sized strollers for its ease of folding and compact size. Mid-sized duo strollers are perfect if you like to walk on hard surfaces, such as a side walk. They are lightweight but sturdy and easy to steer and push.
And then there are the double jogging strollers. Jogging double strollers are designed with bigger wheels, up to a 20 inch diameter, to minimize the bumps and shocks transferring from the street to the babies. They have sturdy handles so that the parent has a good grip to keep the stroller from rolling away, especially on the downhill.
Jogging duo strollers are designed with the type of activity they will be used for. What you intend for the double stroller to do, beside holding your precious babies, will make a difference on which jogging stroller to choose. How often and how far will you use this stroller? Does it need to double as your basic stroller for mall visits? Are you using it on sidewalks or cross country? Do you need it to hitch to your bike? How small do you need it to fold?
Congratulations to having at least two children. Now it is time to think about upgrading to a double stroller system.

Looking for a stroller? You might begin by checking the stroller reviews and stroller ratings on the Web. Prepare for your mind to be boggled!
There are at least 765,000 different sites, some well-known and probably unbiased and some of them with a questionable slant.
If you are beginning your quest for the perfect stroller, the stroller review and stroller rating sites will not be much help as they stick to comparing one model of stroller to another model of the same type. In other words, they compare an umbrella stroller to another umbrella stroller. At the beginning of your search you might want to figure out what type of stroller you want/need, or maybe you will decide that you need more than one type?
There are five basic types of strollers: full-sized, mid-sized, lightweight, umbrella and specialty, such as jogging strollers or strollers for multiple children.
Before clicking on “stroller review” or “stroller ratings” consider all the different types of strollers and your lifestyle. Many families find that they need a full- or mid-sized stroller for long walks and shopping trips and a lightweight or umbrella stroller for the shorter trips, say to the post office. Sometimes a jogging stroller or a stroller that holds multiple children is the best, or additional stroller, choice for a family. Once you have determined what types of strollers you need, then you can choose which one of the strollers build you want, based on stroller reviews and stroller ratings.
A stroller review site usually has consumer statements and feature/price comparisons. A stroller rating site usually has their consumer reviews limited to a numeric grading system such as one through five stars. Which type of stroller comparison site you choose depends on what information you need and your comfort level with that particular site.

Remember too, that if your budget can stand it, you may want to consider more than one type of stroller. Do not forget that you can register for more than one stroller so that your friends and family can help pony-up for the stroller or strollers that you would like to have.
Use several stroller review and stroller rating sites before you make any decisions. While strollers are not as big a purchase as say your house or car, your baby’s safety and comfort are in the balance.

While we are thinking about price, the lightweight strollers have a lightweight price too. They range from the low $60 to the $150 range.
If you consider either a lightweight or an umbrella stroller, an experienced Mom suggested that a good inspection of the front wheels is a precaution worth considering. She said that in her experience with these types of strollers, the wheels kept falling off. Remember, however, that both the lightweight stroller and the umbrella strollers have the lowest prices of all the stroller types. Shop around, think of the different uses you want your stroller to handle. Figure out your budget. Decide how long this stroller needs to last. Then you will know which is the stroller for your baby.
