Car Accessories to Entertain Kids
Posted by in Babies on January 26th, 2010
Traveling with children, especially long distance may require one to give them a lot of attention. You always have to ensure that they are comfortable and safe. This is why it is necessary to purchase certain accessories that will make life easier with the toddlers and children. There are quite a number of car accessories that are child friendly. These will ensure that the child is safe and comfortable all through the journey.
Seat saver mats are good for protecting your car from litter. They are securely fitted on the seats such that the children will not make the seats dirty or tear them as they play in the car. Baby mirrors are also appropriate car accessories for children. They can be fixed in the back seat or on the back head rest. It allows mum and dad to keep an eye on the baby throughout the journey. What is more, the baby also has fun looking at himself through the journey. This accessory is easy to keep clean as it one only needs to wipe it using a cloth.
Windows shades are also important accessories for children. They are fixed on the car window so as to protect the baby from ultraviolet rays that may be harmful. Since even weak sun rays can easily reach the baby in the car, this accessory offers protection so that baby stays comfortable on the road. Further still there are car seat covers which are necessary to protect the baby’s seat from harsh weather.
Car seat covers have sun shields which ensure that the temperature is lowered so that the baby’s seat does not heat up due to the strong sun. What is more, this accessory also ensures that the temperature within the baby’s area is comfortable. One may also consider purchasing a kids travel pillow. This is especially important when traveling long distance. The pillow provides support for the child’s head and neck when he is sleeping. It s made with soft fabric therefore keeps the baby comfortable. A back seat organizer also comes in handy when traveling. The baby’s essentials can be neatly arranged in this accessory. It has two bottle pockets as well as a removable travel pouch. This is important as it helps one to keep baby’s essentials in one place therefore easy to reach. Apart from that, this allows one to keep the car neat since baby’s stuff will be neatly organized in one place.
On the same note, one can still purchase a baby neck supporter for the infants. This is important as it helps in keeping the baby’s head upright and straight. This ensures that the baby is comfortable when sleeping. What is more, it is made from soft cloth keeping the baby cozy all through the journey. It is important to load your car with these accessories so as to ensure that baby is always safe and comfortable. What is more, once the baby is comfortable, you can concentrate more on your driving without having to constantly check up on him.

Top 10 ideas for baby gifts
Posted by in Babies on January 17th, 2010
The quick and easy thing to do when it comes to baby gifts is not always the most inspiring. We know time is short and sometimes buying baby gifts for loved ones gets left to the last minute, just before a trip to the hospital. For others, it’s just not a strong area – what’s appropriate? What colour? How much should you spend? If I don’t give them a teddy bear what else could I buy?
To help make the task of purchasing gifts for a new baby easier I’ve made a list of what I think are ten great gifts for baby, that are a bit outside the square (something a little bit special).
–Individual gift items for baby–
Some of the grooviest little baby gifts are often just an older theme re-done and done very well. The rocking horse is now competing with little toy rockers of every shape and size – giraffes, tigers, rabbits and more. It will make a delightful bedroom accessory while baby is young and later give the toddler hours of fun. Baby Buds has some great designs to choose from.
Baby may not know the difference but another rather special gift is a selection of lovely organic skin creams and lotions for nappy changes or bath time. Mum and dad will appreciate the thought and the extra pampering for their new baby. Baby Buds is one of many suppliers of organic skincare products for baby.
A personalised wall hanging is also a lovely way of welcoming a little one to the world – some companies produce really beautiful, carved wooden made-to-order hangings in a cursive script (like handwriting) that can look really fabulous. Take a look at Urban Baby for some ideas.
Baby gifts for mum and dad!
It’s not exactly a gift for the baby but it is a baby-related gift: new parents often need a brand new bag to carry all their baby paraphernalia, food and comfort items.
Once upon a time any old baby bag would do but these days a pastel bag with coloured blocks or little ducks all over it may no longer match the mother’s (or father’s) sensibilities. In response to a need, there are now some gorgeous, stylish baby bags that are a little less embarrassing to carry around in public.
Black leather, tan and red bags offer a more modern look. To get started, take a look at the OiOi bags at Baby Express.
–Baby gift hampers–
For a really flexible gift, a baby gift hamper can be a wonderful present. When filled with all those essential items new parents may need (but not yet know they need!) a hamper can be an absolute blessing. If you wish, they can be tailored to the family with individual gifts you choose yourself mixed in with the standard items.
A novel approach to the hamper idea is a nappy cake or clothes bouquet. A clothes bouquet is made from cute little socks and singlets twisted into flower shapes, while a nappy cake looks like a multi-tiered wedding cake but made out of nappies, blankets and other fabric baby items. Just For Bubs has nappy cakes and baby bouquets as well as other interesting baby gifts.

How to make sure baby sleeps well at night
Posted by in Babies on October 2nd, 2009
From a very early age it was important that my baby got a goods nights sleep. All babies need between 12 and 15 hours sleep each night. In the early satges they tend to wake every 3 to 4 hours for feeding.
However a good bedtime routine is vital, the earlier you establish it the better.
Since our son was six weeks old, we started quiet time. At six o clock every evening we bathed him, changed him, and fed him his supper.
Then we had some quiet reading or cuddling time. Ny seven o clock he knew it was time for bed. A warm bottle and his teddy followed by a short bed time story and he drifts off to sleep.
Of course it does help having the room, darkened, with a night light too.
For babies there is no difference between night and day and they need to gradually learn that night-time is for sleeping. In fact many new babies may have their most active periods at night and most sleepy periods during the day. If this fits your baby then it isn’t because he associates darkness with being awake, but because during your pregnancy he adopted a rhythm of being lulled to sleep by your activity during the day and being more active when you rested at night.
One way to help your bay associate night time with sleep is to use blackout roller blinds. these when pulled down completely darken the room and baby knows its time for a good nights sleep, and hopefully mum and dad get some sleep too.
You can view a wide range of blackout blinds here at Lancashire Rose blinds
