The Sticky Finger Phenomenon

Kids are into everything. Everything you can think of from oatmeal in the toaster to a whole beach full of sand clogging the tub drain. Parents think they know what they are gettng into when the kid is born, but they do not know anything until they encounter the Sticky Finger Phenomenon.
Baby (henceforth known as Junior) and the rest of the family had pancakes for breakfast. Mom told dad to put away the syrup after breakfast was over, but got distracted with watching the news while getting dressed. Junior, freshly cleaned but still with breakfast baby bib on his neck, is released by his mother from the confines of the high chair. Thus set loose, he spies the syrup from the living room where his mom put him. As he is in a walker, the world is his oyster and makes use of the added mobility. Scooting as fast as possible across the living room and into the kitchen, Junior reaches for the syrup…and manages to dump the whole bottle onto the tabletop and thus onto the floor. As it was pouring onto the floor, the stream was intercepted by the tray of the walker and started filling with syrup. Junior, fascinated by the brown substance ever since breakfast (20 minutes ago, a very long time), reaches out to touch the stuff and is instantly enamored. Covering his hands and his feet (it is all over the floor) Junior lets out a squeal of delight and bolts across the kitchen and back into the living room where all the electronics are. Junior knows the syrup is magical and he must spread the brown and curious feeling substance over the TV and the DVD player.
By the time mom finishes the dishes and realizes what happened, Junior has spread his sticky stuff all over the living room and into the kitchen. You see, the sticky fingers are not those of the baby, but yours- the parent. When that much syrup get spread throughout the house, everybody’s fingers are going to be sticky.

It is a known fact that babies do not like to eat, especially when they are in the toddler phase. It is also a well known fact that kids of a certain age like to put things in their mouths. Why not put an edible item in front of the kid and see if he/she will put it in their mouth and eat it? I know it won’t work with solid food like apples or beans, what if you put it on the fingers or toes? Something that is not too sticky; applesauce or mangoes. Dip the fingers and/or toes in the food and see if the finger or toe will go into the mouth.
If it does then this will be a new and fun way for kids to eat their vegetables. Simply spread the stuff on the fingers, hands, toes, and possibly feet of the youngster and see what happens. The use of a baby bib may no longer be required as the food is pretty much all over his body right now. I don’t think that the kid will get enough nutrition from the toes as he or she would if they were being fed traditionally, but this is definitely a more fun way to go.
Mango toes. The biggest problem that I can see is if the kid is not restrained or even if the kid is in the high chair, the mango or whatever it is will go all over. Keep one of those moistened burp cloths handy for the really big mess. If you are into cleaning and washing a lot more, then go for it. Also if you are only the babysitter, or the grandparent this might work. This way you are not stuck with the cleanup. This will not work, however, if the kid is 2 yrs or older. Kids that age get finicky about what is on their hands. They are also beyond the stage of putting things in their mouth. This particular strategy is only good for a certain period of time and then only a few occurrences, because then mom will find out and the gig is over.
