How to Become An Egg Donor

Donating your eggs is what the medical profession refers to as Assisted Reproductive Technology or A.R.T. A.R.T. offers a wide range of options to achieve pregnancy such as sperm donation and in vitro fertilization. The donation of an egg by a woman is one option. Let’s start with the basics. Eggs are Female reproductive cells (oocytes). Women are born with a finite number of eggs. A woman has hundreds of them, but it is a finite number nonetheless.

Ovaries are the glands that produce these eggs and other hormones. A woman has two of them located on either side of her pelvis. A follicle is a fluid filled sac in the ovary that releases the egg at ovulation

The Uterus is the hollow muscular female reproductive organ where the fetus grows.

Estrogen is the female hormone that directs the reproductive cycle. The levels of estrogen in a female are particularly high from puberty to menopause

As you probably recall from sex education class in junior high school, a fertile woman ovulates once per month. One or two eggs travel down the fallopian tubes and into the uterus waiting to be fertilized by a single sperm. In many women, the ovulation works in a normal way, however no egg is produced. Other factors that lead to infertility include chemotherapy, disease, and other physical abnormalities.

Obviously egg donors are very sought after. People have been known to offer upwards of 50,000 U.S. Dollars for an egg. Bear in mind that the process of harvesting an egg is a surgical procedure, so you will be going under the knife for this deal. What are some of the requirements of an egg donor?

First of all, you must be a woman in your peak productive years. This is usually generally considered to be between the ages of 21-35 in the fertility profession. You must be healthy and be the appropriate weight for your height. Your family history must be clear of any hereditary diseases such as heart disease, cystic fibrosis, and birth defects. Some clinics prefer that you have already conceived a child. You must be a person that possesses low risk behavior. In other words, don’t be a drug addict, alcoholic, or have a high risk for having STDs.

Alright, so you have checked out the above requirements and you feel you are a good candidate. What do you do next? There are all kinds of magazines that advertise for egg donors as well as doctors who recruit people. One good web site is located at www.sart.org. This is the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. Just click on your state, enter your address, and it will guide you to the clinic nearest you. When checking out the clinic, make sure that the doctors there are board certified ob/gyn specialists or reproductive endocrinologists. Ask a lot of questions, because this after all, your body they will be dealing with. Don’t sign or agree to anything until you have talked to and interviewed the doctor extensively. Find out how many of these procedures they have performed. Ask about complications that could arise from the procedure and have them tell you about all the risks involved. Ask for a list of referral patients so that you can speak to other women who have already dealt with that particular clinic. If anything seems suspect to you, you should head over to another clinic. They will be more than happy to take you.

Can You Have a Successful Pregnancy With Fibroids?

If you have fibroids and are thinking about starting a family, you will no doubt be wondering about the potential impact and whether it is possible to have a successful pregnancy with fibroids.

Firstly, as far as conception is concerned, this can be affected by the presence of fibroids. Sometimes, fibroids can block either the cervix or the entrance to the fallopian tubes, both of which can block the passage of sperm and inhibit fertilization.

For the vast majority of women though, fibroids are nothing more than innocent bystanders and the effect they might have depends on:-

* The location of the fibroids
* The size of the fibroids
* How many fibroids you have

With regard to miscarriages, many occur very early on in pregnancy, often before you even know you might be pregnant. In a minority of cases, fibroids can sometimes affect the area where the fertilized egg is implanting in the womb. This is sometimes found to be a cause of previously “unexplained fertility” in a small number of women.

After conception, although the odds of a successful pregnancy with fibroids is high, there are occasions when problems can occur. In the main, fibroids do not grow during pregnancy, although large fibroids might be responsible for some discomfort as the baby grows and conditions in the uterus become more cramped. The location of fibroids can sometimes affect delivery. If a fibroid is located on or near the cervix, then this might mean a cesarean is necessary, but this decision is usually made near to delivery. Occasionally, large fibroids might encourage labor to start early, but fortunately this is not usually early enough to affect the baby.

If you are concerned about whether you can have a successful pregnancy with fibroids, the best thing you can do is to take preventative action to minimize the impact. There are some excellent natural ways of shrinking fibroids which will enhance your overall health and help prepare your body for pregnancy.

The lack of comprehensive “real” help for women led an alternative practitioner to develop a complete system for shrinking fibroids which mirrored what she taught women in her busy clinic.

Her unique, 7 Step Plan has been successfully used by many thousands of women worldwide and for those who are willing to take charge of their own treatment and recognize that they will have to play an active role in their own healing, then this is perfect.

Learn More About Your Birth Control Options

People have used birth control methods for thousands of years. Today, we have many safe and effective birth control methods available to us.

All of us who need birth control want to find the method that is best for us. And each of us has different needs when choosing a method. If you are trying to choose, learning about each method may help you make your decision. Use the list of birth control methods listed below to read about the methods.

Only you can decide what is best for you. And we are here to help. A staff member at your local Planned Parenthood health center can discuss all of your birth control options with you and help you get the birth control you need.

Barrer Birth Control Option
The premise of barrier methods of birth control is very simple: block the sperms path to the uterus and you can prevent becoming pregnant. The three main types of barriers are the diaphragm, the cervical cap and the contraceptive sponge. When used with spermicide, this form of birth control also helps to prevent pregnancy by killing off the sperm. All three types of barriers can be inserted prior to sex but they must also be left in place for as much as six hours after intercourse.

Natural Planning Birth Control Option
Your basal body temperature, or BBT, is your body’s core temperature. Normally, your BBT remains roughly around 97ºF. When you ovulate, though, your body’s temperature rises slightly, going up by half a degree to a full degree to 98F or higher, and stays elevated for a number of days. Keeping track of your BBT is one of the most popular forms of natural birth control used by women today.

Natural family planning is a method used to help a couple determine when sexual intercourse can and cannot result in pregnancy. During each menstrual cycle, one of a woman’s ovaries releases an egg. This process is called ovulation. The egg moves toward the uterus through the fallopian tubes, where fertilization may take place. An unfertilized egg may live for up to 12 hours. The egg will be shed later during the menstrual period if it isn’t fertilized. A woman is most likely to become pregnant if sexual intercourse takes place just before or just after ovulation.

During the menstrual cycle, a number of changes occur in a woman’s body. By keeping track of these changes, couples can plan when to have intercourse and when to avoid intercourse, depending on whether they are trying to achieve or avoid pregnancy.

Abstinance Birth Control Option
Abstinence is by far the best form of birth control that is available. If you do not engage in sexual intercourse, then you cannot get pregnant. Abstinence is a recognized form of birth control, which is defined as any act, drug or device that prevents pregnancy. An act of omission is just as acceptable as a direct act that calls for taking an action. Abstinence has the added benefit of reducing the odds of catching a sexually transmitted disease as well as protecting your feelings if you are rejected after sex. The pill, diaphragms and injections can work up to 99 percent of the time, but the only way to achieve 100 percent effectiveness is to refrain from intercourse.

Birth Control Pill Birth Control Option
There are many pros to taking birth control pills. They are highly effective in preventing pregnancy when taken at the same time each day. In addition, they often reduce menstrual cramps and cause lighter periods. Birth control pills may also protect against uterine and ovarian cancer, ovarian cysts and acne. However, birth control pills do not prevent the transmission of STDs. Condoms must be used along with birth control pills to offer this kind of protection. Birth control pills are 90-95 percent effective when pills are missed or taken at a different time each day. When the pills are taken at the same time every day, they are 99 percent effective, according to the FDA. Some side effects may include weight gain, nausea, and irregular vaginal bleeding, or ’spotting,’ may result. Some precautions should be taken, as the effectiveness of the pill is lowered when taken with several medications, including most antibiotics, anti-seizure medications, tuberculosis medication including INH, and migraine medications. St. John’s Wort also interferes with the effectiveness of the pill. You can get pregnant if you are taking any of these drugs so you must use a back up method of birth control during the course of your treatment.

Which Birth Control Pill Option is right for me?

Alesse Birth Control

Alesse birth control is one of the most effective methods for birth control (99% effective when taken as directed). Alesse birth control contains natural hormones that stop the ovary from releasing an egg and prevent a man’s sperm from entering the uterus. So with Alesse birth control you can put your mind at ease and enjoy intimate moments with your partner.

Mircette Birth Control Option

Mircette contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). Mircette also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Mircette is used as birth control to prevent pregnancy.

Ortho Evra

Like other methods of birth control, the birth control patch releases hormones. Hormones are chemicals made in our bodies. They control how different parts of our bodies work. The hormones in the patch are the same hormones as in the birth control pill ? estrogen and progestin . The hormones work by keeping a woman’s ovaries from releasing eggs ? ovulation . Pregnancy cannot happen if there is no egg to join with sperm . The hormones in the Ortho Evra patch also prevent pregnancy by thickening a woman’s cervical mucus . The mucus blocks sperm and keeps it from joining with an egg.

Using Ortho Evra is safe, simple, and convenient. There is nothing to do right before having sex. Some women say it improves their sex lives because it helps them feel more spontaneous. Many women who use the patch have more regular, lighter, and shorter periods. And a woman’s ability to become pregnant returns quickly when use of the patch is stopped. Because the patch works like the pill, it probably offers the same benefits.

Ortho TriCyclen LO

Do you want a birth control pill that gives you a high level of effectiveness and a low level of hormones ? How about one with these benefits and one that may provide shorter, lighter, more predictable periods?

ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO is a low-dose birth control pill you take every day. When taken as directed, it delivers a low dose of hormones that works to prevent you from becoming pregnant. The hormones in ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO also help to regulate your menstrual cycle , so your periods may be easier and more predictable.

Ortho TriCyclen

There’s a highly effective birth control pill that can actually help clear up your skin too, Ortho Tricyclen. It provides you with a low daily dose of hormones that prevent pregnancy, while actually lowering the level of the hormone in your body that’s likely to cause acne. In clinical tests, Ortho Tricyclen has been clinically proven to help reduce mild to moderate acne?nearly 9 out of 10 women saw improvements in their skin.

Ortho Tricyclen can be a good choice for women 15 or over with mild to moderate acne who have reached menstruation, are seeking contraception, have no known contraindications to birth control pills, and are unresponsive to topical acne medication.

Triphasil

Ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel contains a combination of female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medication also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Triphasil is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy.

Yasmin

Yasmin prevents ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary) and also cause changes in your cervical and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Yasmin is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy. It is also used to treat moderate acne in women who are at least 14 years old and have started having menstrual periods, and who wish to use birth control pills to prevent pregnancy .

This medication is also used to treat the symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), such as anxiety, depression, irritability, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, sleep or appetite changes, breast tenderness, joint or muscle pain, headache, and weight gain.

Trying to Conceive After Tubal Reversal – Get Advice From a Professional

For women who are trying to conceive a child, the process can be very frustrating if it’s not working out. However, women can feel very frustrated in themselves if the cause of their inability to get pregnant was created by choosing to have a tubal ligation. Many women have their tubes tied after they think that they’re not going to have any more children. However, sometimes they change their mind later on.

Unfortunately, many doctors are trained to believe that only way a woman can get pregnant after having her tubes tied is by doing in vitro fertilization. In fact, many reproductive endocrinologists are not even trained in nor do they ever see any other alternative but IVF during their training or schooling.

However, there is a procedure called a tubal reversal which will allow a woman to continue trying to conceive month after month. This is quite different than an IVF treatment which only works for the current month and requires a couple to continue paying for each cycle they want to try. With tubal reversal, the woman can try to get pregnant just like any other woman month after month after she recovers.

After a woman has a tubal reversal, it is very important that she takes very good care of herself while her body heals to give herself the greatest chance of getting pregnant. This means that she needs to maintain a healthy diet, moderate exercise and take prenatal vitamins to prepare her body in case she is able to conceive.

It is also very important that she refrains from smoking or drinking alcohol as this can hamper the healing process of the fallopian tubes. These things may even impact the fetus when she becomes pregnant.

One important factor that a woman should discuss with her doctor before making the decision to have the tubal reversal is how successful she is likely to be at her current age. Studies show that the older a woman gets, the harder it will be for her to carry a successful pregnancy to term. It’s also harder to get pregnant the older we become.

For women who are thinking about trying to conceive after tubal reversal surgery, there many things that they should discuss with their doctor before making the decision to have the procedure. A qualified doctor should be experienced in handling this type of procedure on a regular basis and be able to give advice to the woman on her chances of success based upon his own considerable experience.

You can find such a doctor at the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center and its website http://www.tubal-reversal.net/ Many resources are available to provide you with information including pregnancy statistics from a recent study as well as a message board where you can converse with other women also trying to conceive.

Why I Am Not Getting Pregnant – Pregnancy After 40

You have been trying for twelve months and you have yet to get pregnant. You are not a smoker, you are not a drinker, you don not do drugs, and you try to maintain a healthy lifestyle yet for some reason you cannot get pregnant. 1 in 10 women experience this frustration so you are not alone. Unfortunately, infertility has many causes and they can be caused by the woman, man, or both finding the source of your fertility issues is not an easy task. Despite this, there are common causes of infertility that doctors regularly test for once an infertile woman or couple decides fertility treatments.

Problems with the fallopian tubes are are a leading cause of infertility in women. However, this is a broad category itself so within having an issue with your fallopian tubes, there are numerous causes for these problems. For example, tubal blockage caused by a previous infection such as a sexually transmitted disease can be the culprit. Endometriosis is a common cause of tubal blockage and medication and surgery is a solution for it. Your doctor can better explain what endometriosis is but, in a nutshell, it is a growth of the endometrial tissue, which is normally found lining the uterus, in other parts of the body. The endometrial tissue can attach itself to any part of the reproductive system which can cause infertility.

Other causes of tubal blockage can be from tubal ligation (having your tubes tied to prevent a future pregnancy) and scarring of your fallopian tubes. As mentioned, tubal ligation is when a woman has her tubes tied to prevent a pregnancy. If she decides to become pregnant after this procedure, opportunities for tubal blockage increase when trying to reverse this procedure.

Problems with fertility do not only lie within the woman but the man can also cause infertility. As it is with women, the cause of male infertility can be many but low sperm count is the most common cause. If low sperm count is determined to be the source of the infertility, you have to dig deeper to find the cause of the low sperm count. This could be due to hormonal problems, testicular injuries, cancer treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy, drug use, genetic problems, or it could be physical problems with the reproductive system itself.

If you are having problems getting pregnant and it has been at least a year of trying (six months if you are over the age of 35), seeking medical assistance is a good idea. This is especially important if you are over the age of 35 and in your 40s as time is not on your side. With age come other factors that affect your chances of getting pregnant so it is in your best interest to seek medical help.

How to Guarantee Having a Girl Baby

In actual fact, there is presently only one way to completely guarantee having a girl baby and that is through the use of IVF techniques which include pre-implantation gender selection. Even having this procedure cannot guarantee that you will become pregnant as a relatively small number of implantations will lead to a successful pregnancy.

Having said this, there are a number of straightforward steps you can take which will certainly help to tip the balance in favor of having a girl. Male and female sperm have differing characteristics and we can use these differences to our advantage. Female sperm is slower-moving than male sperm. It can survive for a longer period of time and is generally more robust. Although you cannot guarantee a girl baby, you can improve your chances.

Firstly, ensure that you know when ovulation is going to take place. Ovulation happens 14 days before the start of the menstrual period and if you have any doubt about this whatsoever, then get hold of an ovulation predictor kit. Once you know when this is, you can help to guarantee having a girl baby by having intercourse up to two days before ovulation and then stop. The longer lasting female sperm will still be around the fallopian tubes when ovulation happens, whilst the male sperm will have perished. If you do have intercourse just before, or on the day of, ovulation, your chances of having a boy increase as the faster male sperm are likely to reach the egg first.

Although you cannot guarantee having a girl, you can also take advantage of the acidic pH levels which are preferred by female sperm. The conditions around the entrance of the vagina are acidic, so having intercourse using positions which involve shallower penetration mean that ejaculation happens where the female sperm is more likely to thrive. In addition, the longer journey up the vagina is more likely to favor the more robust female sperm. You can also consider using a mild acidic douche, and there are several “recipes” available.

Rather than being one of the many couples who leave matters to chance, take control and be proactive. You can increase your chances of having a girl dramatically and not be left with that “what if” feeling for the rest of your life.

For further information on how to guarantee having a girl baby, please visit my website, Pick Your Baby’s Gender. Here you will find information based on scientific principles which will help you have your daughter.

Pregnancy Week 1 – Timeline Of Fetal Development

During the earliest part of pregnancy week 1, a inherent code will have already been programmed in for your baby at the time of formation. Once the toughest sperm has penetrated the egg, known as a ‘oocyte’, it will get rid of it’s tail which it no longer needs. The two adjoining cells of the egg and the sperm will now be known as a ‘zygote’. This moment of conception is when your pregnancy has begun.

The passage along your fallopian tubes will commence within 24 hours as the ‘zygote’ develops into a ‘blastomere’ from rapid cell division. After arriving in your uterus, about 72 hours later, the cells will have grown into an active cell life called a ‘blastocyst’ It generally takes around 1 week from the time of formation for the blastocyst to finally connect itself onto the wall of your uterus using miniature finger-like projections. The blastocyst will then expel the hCG hormone to tell the body that it is now pregnant. This ensures that it continues producing progesterone as well which will aid to keep the pregnancy feasible.

The creation of these hormones will put an end to your menstrual cycle so that the blastocyst can stay carefully attached. . Also, in order to stop your immune system mistaking the blastocyst as a strange body and attacking it, an immunosuppressant protein will also be released during this process. Your body’s acceptance of this new cell life will now allow it to go on with developing carefully within the womb. Three cell layers are formed in the first stages of pregnancy, known as ‘germ layers’. Each layer is responsible for a particular growth purpose within the embryo.

Although your body is rapidly releasing numerous hormones during pregnancy week 1, it is doubtful at this stage that you will be aware that you are pregnant. . Your cervix will already start to condense and your uterine walls will have softened. Your pregnancy can be confirmed by detecting the hCG hormone using a home pregnancy testing kit although it is not assured in the earliest week as the levels of hCG will not be high enough yet. If you suppose that you may be pregnant then you will either need to wait until the end of the second week to effectively use a home testing kit or see your GP for a blood test – this will make certain of a 100% reading within the first week.

For more information on pregnancy week 1 or to unearth more about your assorted pregnancy stages week by week for both you and your baby you can visit us at: Timeline Of Fetal Development.

Statistics for Getting Pregnant When You’re Over 40

Statistics on getting pregnant when you are over 40 years of age can be pretty dismal. The U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention (CDC) collects assisted reproductive technology (ART) success rates from some fertility clinics. The CDC released a report in 2006 on the success rates of ART. What they found out was that the majority of ART treatments that led to a live birth were not successful.

In fact, 39 percent of women under the age of 35 gave birth. As the women in the CDC report grew older, the success rate drop considerably. For example, women aged 35-37 had a 30 percent success rate, women aged 37-59 had a 21 percent success rate and women aged 41-42 had an 11 percent success rate.

This being said, should you decide to go through with ART, the most common form of it is in vitro fertilization (IVF). This procedure mean fertilization takes place outside the body, according to the Office on Women’s Health. Statistically speaking, this is the most effective form of ART.

IVF is most often used when there is some sort of block in the fallopian tubes or when the man produces low levels of sperm. The doctor will have the woman take fertility drugs that cause the woman to ovulate and produce a number of eggs. After a certain period of time, the eggs will be removed from the woman’s body and placed in a dish in a lab with the man’s sperm. The idea behind this is that fertilization will take place in the dish and after about 3 to 5 days, viable embryos are placed into the woman’s uterus.

Medical technology has helped many women and couple conceive when it seemed as if a pregnancy was not in their future. However, ART procedures can be time consuming and expensive. These factors aside, the most common complication of ART is multiple fetuses. This can cause serious complications for the woman.

Getting pregnant is possible and many women have successfully brought a baby into this world. Keep an open mind and keep yourself as healthy as possible. Curing Your Fertility Problems

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services consider a woman or couple “infertile” after a year of trying to get pregnant. The year time frame does not apply for women over the age of 35. If you are over the age of 35, you are considered “infertile” after 6 months of trying. Being told you are infertile does not mean you cannot get pregnant. Some couples do get pregnant without any medical assistance after the first year but many other women and/or couples do need assistance and successful pregnancies do occur.

Age does play a major role, as a woman is typically most fertile in her mid to late twenties but after the age of 35, fertility decreases while the risk of miscarriage increases. Aside from age, the source of fertility problems can be attributed to numerous factors. The most common cause attributed to infertility, about 50 percent of the time, has something to do with the woman’s body. Within the woman, the problems can be many as fertility issues can be due to something wrong with her fallopian tubes, uterus, or her ability (or inability) to ovulate.

The next common reason is due to the man’s reproductive system. If the man is the one that is shown to be the cause of the fertility problems, it is usually due to a low sperm count. Another reason for infertility can be attributed to uncommon problems such as exposure to certain chemicals or medicines or even diseases. Even after extensive testing, however, there is a chance that no cause of infertility can be determined.

For women and couples desperately wanting to get pregnant, this can be devastating new but there are fertility treatment options available that can lead to a successful pregnancy. Despite these advances, you should carefully think about which option is best for your situation and be prepared for the strong emotions that are usually involved in this process.

You should also considered what’s called “fertility awareness” before taking steps to undergo fertility treatments. Fertility awareness just means that you should be educated to recognize the physical signs of ovulation. Charting your basal body temperature is a common method as is distinguishing the changes in the consistency of the cervical mucus. It is possible that you have just been missing your most fertile days when trying to conceive and this is not an uncommon coincidence.

If these methods do not help, seek medical assistance. A physical exam is typical for both partners as it can determine if there is anything physically wrong with your body and your partner’s body.

Getting pregnant is possible and many women have successfully brought a baby into this world. Keep an open mind and keep yourself as healthy as possible. To learn more about curing infertility in women, please take a moment to read this article and please visit pregnancyover40.tumblr.com for more information. Good luck and don’t lose hope.
