Most mothers, especially new and prospective ones, have encountered this large argument at least once in their lifetime. The great question of which exactly is better to use for their precious and delicate children, a cloth or a disposable diaper, has plagued them since the introduction of disposable nappies to the world. Because of this, lists of both their advantages and disadvantages have cropped up many times in the past.
As there are many differences between the two, it is rather difficult to determine which is better. First and foremost, disposable diapers are cheaper individually. They are definitely easier to use and are disposable, as the name already states. Because of this, it is easier to travel, as it doesn’t need to be bundled up inside a bag to be washed at home or at a laundry shop. Also, it doesn’t leak as much as a cloth diaper.
However, there are also cons for this type of diaper. They are the following: they don’t disintegrate, thus filling up numerous garbage landfills – which is inevitably bad for the environment. They are expensive due to constant use, as it is one-use only. There is also the fact that there are some materials used to make disposable diapers that may be hazardous to the child’s health. Lastly, it takes longer to potty train the child.
Cloth diapers, in comparison to disposable ones, are made of more natural materials thus eliminating the possibility of chemicals and toxins that may harm the baby. Also, compared to the traditional version of cloth diapers, new versions no longer make use of safety pins that could prick the child. Instead, they make use of Velcro straps or snaps. When bought individually, cloth diapers may seem expensive. However, these diapers help save more money since they can be used again after they have been washed and cleaned. It is also better to use when potty training the child as it shows leaks earlier than a disposable one, thus prompting him or her to inform the parents for a change. As the whole world learns of the budding and disastrous consequences of wrongful waste management and just plain garbage from common materials of this time, movements have been started to end this atrocity. One of these factions is a group of young mothers that have realized the benefits of ‘going green’ and lessening the use of common wasteful products such as disposable diapers. They have started to look back into the past and have improved upon long forgotten and formerly used ways, and have thus modernized them.
