The entire system is small and light, so it’s easy for you to take anywhere. And you’ll get a comfortable and efficient pumping experience because of its unique ComfortSeal Cushion. Although all the parts are safe to clean in the dishwasher, if you hand wash the white valve, silicone diaphragm stem and the ComfortSeal Cushion, you’ll extend their usefulness. 3 Unusual Ways to Calm a Cranky Baby
Posted by in Babies on September 26th, 2009
These methods for soothing are for babies who don’t care for silence. This works for babies who can sleep through a shootout on TV, yet are startled by a creak from the floorboard. They like it loud.
I’ve got a baby with just that personality. In some ways it’s great. Turn on the TV, turn on the radio, no worries about breaking the snooze. But it’s not so great at night, when we grown folks like it quiet in the house so WE can sleep.
So here are three ways to compromise with your little one. Two methods that are good for day and one that everyone can agree on at night.
1. The blender. Baby’s wailing. Sounds like a great time for a smoothie! As soon as we hit the blend button, the crying stops and serenity follows. We don’t question it, we just make a whole lot more smoothies these days.
2. The vacuum. Is it the deafening hum? Or does she just like a clean house? I dunno, but she likes it. This one is a good one to use to get your husband to vacuum cause he’ll do anything (even housework) if it means the baby will hush.
OK, here’s your night time compromise.
3. A white noise machine. You know, one of those things that makes the sound of the ocean, or rain, or a bubbling stream. This one seems to be enough noise for the baby but light enough for adults to sleep to. This one can make for interesting background music to your dreams too.
Anyway, there’s no real rhyme or reason to it. These worked for us, but you may find that your child is partial to the dishwasher or the blow dryer. Play around with it and see what works for you.

How to Clean a Baby Bottle
Posted by in Babies on September 18th, 2009
Cleaning a baby bottle can be one of the most challenging jobs related to baby bottle feeding. One must adopt good methods of cleaning which has to be done systematically every day to get the desired level of hygiene necessary for babies to stay healthy. Normally, mothers find it difficult to keep the baby bottle clean just because they resort to bad practices like keeping dirty bottles overnight only to be washed the next day. Also, if they make use of a bottle brush which is much too hard, the baby bottles and baby nipples will get scratched causing them to start leaking too soon and even end up choking the infant.
It is immaterial whether a mother chooses to wash a baby bottle by hand or with the help of a dishwasher; what is important is that they do it quick without wasting time and use the minimum of resources like soap, water and electricity. The first thing one should after a baby bottle has been used is rinse it out. Caking within the bottle and the foul smell retained become the major problems to wrestle with while cleaning. When you rinse you are making sure that cheesing within the bottle is eliminated as also any foul odour. This is the first step to be kept in mind for babies to be healthy.
Rinse the baby bottle out preferably with hot water before you put all the bottles used along with their nipples in a big basin filled with soap water. This is a very practical method and at the same time economical too as you will be saving your resources and also saving time. After you let them soak for some time, the baby bottles will be ready for cleaning. Use a fairly stiff baby bottle brush to clean out the corners and edges where milk residue is normally found. You can even use foam at the end of a baby bottle brush to reach the bottom of the bottle within. After this you can just rinse the soap off with hot water several times and then put them on a rack so that they can get air-dried. This way good health for babies is always assured.
A lot of mothers prefer to sterilize the baby bottle before leaving it for air-drying. Sterilization is a must in places where the water is not disinfected or if the baby’s immune system is deficient. Some paediatricians tell mothers to sterilize the baby bottle till the infant reaches the age of two months in spite of having a disinfected water supply. Put the bottle and other accessories in a pot filled with water so as to just cover the contents. Bring to a boil and leave for five minutes for any bacteria to be killed. Be careful about the time as overdoing it could distort the bottles meant for babies and often leave you with none at hand or you could keep one in stock for emergencies.
