Maternity Nightwear and How To Choose It

During your pregnancy and with a newborn baby at home, sleep is a precious commodity – you need to do everything you can to promote it. Having the right maternity nightwear will certainly make you feel as comfortable as possible when you do get to bed. While it needs to be practical, this does not mean it can’t be desirable and luxurious.

You will find you need the support offered by specially designed maternity sleepwear in the latter stages of your pregnancy. Your bust size increases and the swell of your baby bump makes more restrictive garments uncomfortable. Once your baby has arrived and you need to nurse in both the hospital and at home, the advantages of wearing nightwear specially designed to feed both discreetly and with the required amount of support, is important. I recommend you take time out to be properly fitted and advised by the professionals when making your purchases.

Points to consider when choosing your maternity pyjamas, nighties and camisoles are comfort, support, the use of double layered cotton linings, well designed pleats to enhance your shape and of course practical and easy to open clips to make feeding times as simple as possible. The garment you choose to buy should have shelf support and drop down cups which mean no bunching layers of fabric and draping of bed linen to provide discreet feeding.

There are days when getting out of your nightwear seems to take all day – make sure you have something gorgeous and even glamorous on in case you get caught! Some designer styles incorporate loungewear into their ranges which can double as daywear with all the benefits of breastfeeding lingerie. These may be in the form of comfortable PJ sets with camisoles and matching 3/4 sleeve length tops. There are times when you want to wear something desirable and glamorous – and why not? There are wonderful options out there in maternity nightwear which are as sensual and sophisticated as any designer lingerie. Camisoles lined in silky microfibre, soft lace edgings and with mesh shells to create shape are available in pretty, muted tones. Or for something a little more risquý, choose from stronger more sensual tones, satin bows and saucy splits on the leg.

Like your quality of sleep, the quality of what you sleep in must be considered. Your body is more prone to temperature fluctuations during your pregnancy. If this is the case for you, try to choose cotton Modal nightwear – its breathable and feels luxurious against your skin. Durability of fabrics must be considered as you will wash your maternity lingerie and garments more frequently than you otherwise would.

Choose carefully, get professionally fitted, look and feel feminine and desirable – and sleep well!

What is Designer Maternity Wear and Why Should I Buy It?

Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to resort to brown and boring maternity wear! Maternity lingerie now comes in a variety of sophisticated and stylish designs, for all types of women.

What you wear expresses your femininity and being pregnant is one of the most feminine, sensual times in your life. Women know this! Designer maternity wear provides you with the ability to feel feminine and glamorous at a time when you just sometimes don’t. When I needed to buy new lingerie during my first pregnancy, I searched high and low and could only find traditional, uninspiring maternity ranges. I was used to gorgeous designer lingerie and the thought of wearing unattractive pieces during my pregnancy and beyond filled me – and my husband – with horror. So, I started my own maternity lingerie company.

Designer maternity lingerie provides you with the fit, comfort, practicalities and variety of sizing that you need during your pregnancy. It also makes you feel ravishing! I was my very own case study and soon realised there were a lot of women like me. Lingerie can be gorgeous and sensual as well as having a practical aspect. This applies to maternity lingerie as well and is typified by the use of gorgeous colours and fabrics, soft cotton, breathable linings and clever seam construction to ensure no rubbing or chafing. Maternity does not mean matronly!

As important as underwear is maternity sleepwear. Maternity clips are easy to use with one hand and again, luxurious fabrics are used – those precious hours of sleep need to be perfect and your awake time kept to a minimum.

When to indulge in your new designer maternity wear is a question we are often asked. You will become uncomfortable in your regular lingerie as your body changes and grows – this is usually around the three to four month stage. I recommend you visit a professional bra fitter. Depending on the development of your bust you should be fitted again around the seven month stage, but if you ever feel constricted by your garments, go for another fitting. Designer garments are as wearable and comfortable as any lingerie. It is a fact that nearly 80% of Australian women wear the wrong size maternity bra – alarming, but true. Make sure you get well fitted for your maternity wear and for the changes you will go through after the arrival of your precious wee person. A well fitted bra will give you good bust shape, flattering profile and help with your posture – not to mention the fact you will feel great about yourself.

While designer wear has been seen as an exclusive, we have broken down those barriers and made sophisticated and stylish maternity wear achievable for as many women as possible.
