5 Tips for Baby Shower Gifts
Posted by in Babies on December 4th, 2009
I’m sure most expectant mothers have their gift registry to help the shower goers with ideas for gifts. However here are five somewhat out of the ordinary gift suggestions for your consideration. Arriving with one of these may make you the hit of the party.
1.Rock-a-bye baby in the hammock
This is definitely not the usual thing one would think of when considering a baby gift. These hammocks, made by several different companies, hang on a stand and sort of swaddle baby as he/she sways or swings.
They give baby the closeness they like and the swaying motion that most times will lull them to sleep. Sounds like one of these would be great to help baby relax. We all know how uptight these babies get when their feeding isn’t on time.
2.Baby is going to need a bath
If you are thinking of that old plastic bathtub for babies that would sit in the adult bathtub, you would be wrong. Now there is available “pod” or “bucket” looking containers that the baby sits in and gets bathed.
It is very nice for the bath giver because there is no need to bend over a bathtub. It also is small and more “baby sized” so the child feels more secure while having their bath. This is a nice innovation.
3.Let’s go for a stroll.
Some of the nicest strollers on the market today are the all-terrain type strollers. With a single front wheel that turns 360 degrees these are very easy to navigate.
In fact these strollers are so nice the parents will probably be coming up with excuses to get out and stroll as much as possible.
These strollers are ergonomically designed for baby’s comfort and sport extra features for the adults, who will of course be doing the strolling part.
4.It’s got to be time for a diaper change.
This isn’t going to be your run of the mill changing table either. Available for you to purchase is a combination changing table and bathtub.
These are also made by several companies so it’s obviously not that out of the ordinary.
Really a nice idea to have all the items you need for bath and changing all in one place. And if it happens to be a messy diaper change then you can bathe the little one right there on the spot.
5.Sometimes carrying baby is more convenient.
How about one of those nice baby carriers that strap around the adult? The one I’m referring to lets the baby be carried in front.
These are great for leaving the parents “hands free” and also giving baby the closeness they crave. These types of carriers will be of use for a much longer time than the regular plastic hand carry kind.
A friend of mine used hers for such a long time, her daughter’s legs hung down to my friend’s knees. I’d say she got her money’s worth out of that carrier!
I personally think all of these would make nice gifts however, my favorite out of all five is the all terrain stroller idea.

Accessorize Your Diaper Bag
Posted by in Babies on November 17th, 2009
Every prepared parent wants a properly accessorized diaper bag, however, after this article you will have a new appreciation for accessories and get a better understanding to how you want to accessorize your bag.
Let’s begin with the accessory that most diaper bags come with when you purchase them… most diaper bags come equip with a changing pad. The durability and wash ability of the changing pad will vary from bag to bag, however, the overall usage individuals get from this accessory happens frequently and is necessary for those times that an unexpected diaper change is needed in an unexpected place!
Let’s now look at the accessories that one might not think about until it’s too late! For starters, I will state the obvious… clearly beside the diapers all parents MUST carry wipes. Most wipe manufactures have begun selling portable wipe containers that can be refilled or discarded for a very reasonable price. Other more durable diaper wipe containers are available at most baby retail stores and come in a variety of colors, styles, and shapes.
As a mother, I can remember numerous diaper changes that needed placed outside away from all noses right away! I can think of at least a few times when I lugged a stinky diaper around in my bag for hours before discarding it, and other times when I fumbled with plastic bags hoping to contain the odor. Avoid these types of hassle by purchasing diaper mate disposable bags that provide you with disposable bags in a convenient diaper wipe looking container that can be placed conveniently in your diaper bag without the hassle of taking up a lot of room. These disposable bags can be found at www.letsgostrolling.com.
All parents know that every child needs to eat at the most inconvenient times, therefore, bottles, formula, and solid foods (for older children) is among the necessity list of diaper bag contents. Baby manufactures have realized the hassle of preparing a child’s bottle when out and about so they’ve made parents jobs easier. Formula dispensers, snack cups, and pre-packaged formula tubes are now available at most children retail stores such as BabiesRUs, Target, and Walmart. These accessories have made it possible for parents to pre-measure formula into a container that opens easily with one hand making bottle preparation easier than ever before!
Disposable sippy cups and silverware have also popped onto the scene allowing a cup to be left behind without the worry of the high price parents will pay to replace it! Manufactures have begun packaging their baby foods into plastic re-sealable containers making it easier to travel and feed a hungry child. New “Jar Pac” systems are available at www.babybrowns.com allowing parents to store a child’s food and silverware in a handy to go zipper pack that is insulated allowing cold food to stay cool and vice versa.
Moving on out of the necessities and into the must haves when at a restaurant, standing in line, in the car, or basically any place you find yourself going where you and your child may have be wait before the next activity. Now I know what you’re thinking, every parent grabs a toy or two when they leave the house. However, manufactures have now made special products especially for diaper bags easing a parents’ pain of waiting. New Chalk Mats are available on www.babybrowns.com allowing toddlers and older children a place to draw over and over again with little to no mess. The mat wipes off immediately and is washable. Plus the mat easily folds up allowing for easy storage.
Other toys are available at local baby retail stores. Many of these toys clip onto the handles of a diaper bag freeing up space inside of the bag allowing for more room and helping with organization. Other attention grabbing toys are being made for car seats, strollers, and carts freeing up more space in one’s diaper bag!
All in all, new accessories make a busy parent’s life a little easier. Overall, organization, preparation, and the process in how we handle our child’s everyday activities have been made a bit easier thanks to baby manufactures and their accessories!
My baby diaper bag has many different accessories in it. I can’t believe how useful they all are. I have even put some organic milk in it for me. I know that isn’t an accessory but it is really nice to have when you are thirsty.

Exploring Toys for Six to Nine Months
Posted by in Babies on September 11th, 2009
Look out parents! At six to nine months your baby has advanced to a whole new level of play. That means you need a toy upgrade! This is the age where your baby is beginning to sit up and maybe even crawl. Your baby’s hand-eye-coordination is rapidly developing which means they can now pick up a toy and bang it on the floor. As annoying the new noise can be, it is a good sign. It also means that your baby is probably bored with their old toys and is getting interested in toys they can interact with. Activity centers, blocks, soft objects, and containers are perfect when starting your upgraded toy collection.
A stationary activity that is great for strengthening your baby’s back and neck is the play saucer. Your baby can stand or sit in the play saucer and be surrounded by gadgets that make noise, light up, and flip. This helps to fine tune the motor skills while keeping your baby occupied. Experts suggest you limit play saucer play time to twenty minute intervals so that weight is put the heels of their feet and not just their toes. Activity centers or busy boards in their crib or play pen can really excite your little one for a while and it keeps them company when they first wake up from their nap.
By this age your baby is probably more mobile and getting into everything. They are most likely knocking down everything in sight which can be nerve racking for you as parents. Fortunately soft blocks and stacking toys are perfect for your little demolition crew. You can interact with your child by building things with the blocks specifically so that your baby can knock them down! Babies love this and you will hear many squeals of delight when they have destroyed your next block building.
Containers are also great in helping your child develop spatial concepts. You will find that will be very curious as to what fits together and what does not. Your baby can learn to distinguish between different shapes and sizes. Bath toys really play a hand in this spatial development because they can see the cause and effect of their actions. Babies get to see the light toys floating and the heavy toys splashing. There are some toys that will stick to the side of the bathtub and you can see the wheels turning in your baby’s eyes as they try and figure out how that works.
Although these toys will get you started on raising the bar on your toy collection, you will turn around twice and have to buy toys for your twelve month old. Don’t worry; there is a way to keep your baby’s toys fresh and new. When your child is having playtime do not give them all of their toys at once. Give your child two or three toys out of the toy supply and then later that day replace them with two or three other toys. This makes each toy seem original and saves you from a bored fussy baby. Baby, toddler, and preschool toys that develop with your child can give your baby an edge on achieving those important milestones.

Stroller Accessories
Posted by in Babies on August 14th, 2009
Trickin’ out your baby’s ride with stroller accessories is a customizing thing to do. What would a stroller be without stroller cup holders and customized stroller covers and a stroller paint job, and unique stroller sun shade and a stroller … Whoa! Let’s not give Dad too many ideas.
However, you might be surprised how many different stroller accessories are available.
You did your homework and picked the perfect stroller for your child, but now that you’ve had the stroller a couple of months, you realize that there are a few ways to improve it to better fit your lifestyle. Oh, yeah and the child is now sitting up, holding his sippy cup, wait, there it goes flying again. (This kid has a really good arm!)
The fully loaded and pricey strollers came with the stroller cup holder kit, but you didn’t go that route. Or you can’t find it right now. That’s OK. There are many after market (that’s a car accessory term) and generic stroller cup holder manufacturers. Huge numbers of them come up on the Internet if you type in “stroller cup holders.” If you head to your local baby accessory shop, you can find stroller cup holders there. If you do travel to the baby stroller accessory shop, make sure and take several containers with you that you will want to fit in the stroller’s cup holder. The favorite sippy cup, the cartoon character juice cup, the water bottle, what ever.
The stroller accessories don’t stop with stroller cup holders, oh no. The real class comes with the stroller covers. Their purposes are to protect the baby from rain, insects and too much sun.
The stroller covers that ward off the rain are usually clear plastic and do not add much to the overall tricked-out stroller look. But they do protect the baby from getting wet.
The stylin’ stroller covers are the sun screens and the insect covers. If you look hard enough you can find these stroller covers in different colors. This is the stroller accessory that you can use to show your real sense of color and design.
However, stroller covers are meant to protect your baby. Make sure each stroller cover is made for your stroller model. It is important that the stroller cover is the right size and shape to stay on your stroller.
The fit is especially important with the rain stroller covers. Besides having the correct fit, the rain resistant stroller cover must be secure. Make sure the plastic rain cover fastens to the stroller frame in several places. Make sure you fasten it at each fastener and every time you use the stroller cover. You would not want it to come loose, your baby to pull it down and suffocate. Of course you would never leave your baby unattended, ever, even in a stroller, but the stakes go up if you are using a plastic rain cover.
The other two types of stroller covers, sun protection and insect repelling, are made of mesh fabrics and “breathe.” While there is some danger the baby could get tangled up in the cloth, your child is less likely to die with these covers becoming unsecured.
Trickin’ your baby’s ride can be fun, but it has its practical side, too. Just remember he will out grow this ride sooner than you can imagine.
