Child Safety and Baby Products

As parents in a fast paced world we must take extra care to insure our child’s safety. I would like to discuss just a few of the things we can do to help keep our children safe. The home kitchen is a place we should be very aware of safety issues. There are many items in a typical kitchen that are potentially harmful to a child.
Some of the things we can do for kitchen safety is to keep our children off counter tops. Keep furniture and step stools away from your counters. Make sure there are no highchairs or tables close enough to allow the counter top to be in arms reach. Secure all the latches on the bottom cabinets. Keep your floor free of spills so that no one slips or falls. Make shelves secure to wall, to avoid falling objects. Put protective covers over knobs that are within arms reach. Keep all utensils away from edge of counter. Turn handles of pots and pans away from edge of stove. Put safety inserts in all electrical outlets not being used. Install ground fault circuit interrupters in all electrical outlets. Put a non skid floor in your kitchen. Have the paint checked to see if it contains lead. Repainting may be necessary. Keep loose items like highchairs or walkers out of walkways. Set your hot water temperature to a maximum 120 degrees. If other children are in the adjacent room you may want to put a safety gate in kitchen entrance. You should always have a fire alarm and smoke alarm in or near your kitchen. A first aide kit is a must for every kitchen. A telephone with the numbers of the local emergency agencies can be a life saver!
One of the most important things you can do for child safety is to secure your child in a harness while feeding. There are many good highchairs on the market that have excellent safety straps. Be sure you choose a quality product that you are comfortable with. If you choose to use a booster seat or highchair or any other devise, be sure to secure your child with proper restraints.
While there are many things that can be done to insure your child’s safety, not all of them can always be done at one time. So if you are in a new location or financially it is not feasible, be persistent. Do as many things as you can. Remember that it is child safety that is at risk here. Parenting is a full time job so stay diligent and you will be rewarded.

About Car Seat Safety
Posted by in Pregnancy on November 2nd, 2009
Ensuring car safety for the young ones is essential and most of the countries make it a legal requirement that one ensures that their children are well taken care of when in the car by use of car safety seats. Many companies offer car seats services leaving the parents with wide field to choose from. There are variety of car seats and one is supposed to choose based on their budget and child’s age. The infant car seat is designed for children who are less than one year, weigh 20 pounds or less, and should always ride rear-facing.
The convertible car seat for preschoolers or toddlers car seat is designed for children aged above one year and who weigh more than 20 pounds and should also ride rear-facing as long as possible but they can also ride forward-facing. The school-aged children can ride on the Booster car seat designed for overgrown children and they should ride forward-facing but the booster seat should hold them until they are grown up enough for the normal seat belt to fit them. The normal seats belts are designed for grown up children between 8 and 13 years. One should keenly refer to the car seat manual to know if their child suits to use it. This enables one to make the right choice when buying the children car seats.
Some of the basic child safety rules includes kids riding on the back seat of the car as this highly reduces their death risk in case of an accident. The car seat should also never be placed rare-facing on the front car seat especially when the car has active front airbags as this risks the child to being suffocated by the airbag in case the car is involved in an accident. The rear facing style is highly recommended due to its capability of going against physic-related forces that may expose the child’s body if they were riding forward-facing. The faster the car, the higher the crash will be and the faster the crush is transferred to the child’s body organs, while riding rear-facing, the crash will take long time to be transferred to the child’s organs hence less impact.
Although one will not be able to prevent all the accidents from occurring, it is recommended that one does their best to ensure that the child’s safety is assured at all time of their ride especially for long trips. The car seats do not only protect the child from death risks in accidents, but also ensure the child’s comfort especially in long trips, which may include breaks and rough road encounters.
Most countries have researched and approved the rear-facing ride as one of the safest children riding mean with the least death risks. When preparing for long car trip, one should take note that an accident can occur from side, front and back crushing and hence the regulation that the car seats straps should be carefully locked fitting the child to make sure that the child is not hurt regardless of the crush angle.

Looking for a Baby Shower Gift? How About a Baby Play Gym Or Baby Car Seat?
Posted by in Babies on August 11th, 2009
Baby showers are the best way to show joy, hope, and excitement to any expectant mother. With all of her family and friends around her, she begins to feel a little less overwhelmed at the prospect of having a new baby. Even better is when the mom-to-be is gifted with many of the supplies that she needs to arrange the nursery so she’s completely ready for the special occasion. A baby shower is also a great chance to get the girls together for a fun time of laughing and goofing around.
How to Decorate for the Big Event
Decorations are wonderful, because they set the happy mood for the entire celebration. If you don’t know the gender of the baby, choose yellows, greens, and white. It creates a light and happy color theme! The cake can even serve as a decoration; add small plastic baby figurines and pacifiers, etc. that can be acquired from a discount party supplier. They add novelty to the dessert as well as to the topic of the occasion.
Great Baby Shower Gifts to Get Mom Ready
If you are the one throwing the party, be sure your soon-to-be-mom has either enlisted at a nearby store or online vendor to give the guests ideas as to what she would like as gifts. Another option to this would be for her to make a list of what she would like to have, perhaps baby crib set, a Graco baby swing, or even a Baby Trend car seat. Specify the themes and colors she wants in the invitations and let the guests take it from there! If she needs a infant car seat, describe kinds that will change as the baby grows, from newborn through booster seat, for example. If she needs a baby buggy, suggest to the guests a few types that will allow for Baby Trend car seat to be set on it for simple transfer from the car to the stroller. A baby bouncer is an especially useful gift because it permits mom to do things while the little one is being soothed. The best kinds are the ones that have a pull-off baby carrier so mom can bring baby into another room without disturbing them.
Baby Shower Fun With Popular Games
Baby showers are known for their quirkiness and silly games. A game that is especially fun is “You Can’t Say That” such as “baby” or “girl” or “boy”. Another favorite is a baby food game where the guests either smell or taste various flavors of pureed food and try to guess what fruit or vegetable it is. A game that’s really entertaining as well is where a diaper is passed around, musical-chairs style, and on the inside of the diaper is a scoop of warm chocolate frosting. This one is sure to get tons of laughs from the party guests! Don’t forget prizes for the winning players; choose girly gifts like bath and body gels or lotions, fresh containers of plants or flowers, gift cards, or a gift bag full of something themed such as “girl’s night out in a bag”.
The best showers offer the new mom everything she will need for her new baby. The shower is also a perfect opportunity for loved ones to support her and laugh and have fun. There’s nothing better than everyone leaving the party feeling that they had the best time!
