List Of Useful Gifts For Babies
Posted by in Babies on February 13th, 2010
Anticipating the coming of a child obviously requires a lot of useful things that will go a long way in meeting his or her needs. New parents will appreciate baby gifts that are simple, yet can do a lot. Stuffed animals, picture frames, keepsake boxes and other popular gifts for babies are nice, but useful baby supplies that the parents will need for their baby are more highly appreciated. Now, if you are looking for a great baby shower gift that will sure to impress your expecting sister or friend, here is the list of useful gifts for babies you may consider to choose from.
Receiving Blankets
Often, plush baby blankets or thick quilts are given baby showers, but why not opt for a set of receiving blankets instead? You can use receiving blankets for a lot of things, like they can be used for catching spit-up, as nursing cover up, as protector when changing the baby, for swaddling, and for other purposes. It’s okay to give duplicate receiving blankets so that mom won’t go rush to get dirty blankets washed from time to time. The same holds true if you will give burp cloths or bibs. New parents will need a few more extras of these supplies as they will often have lots of washing to do.
Baby Diaper and Changing Essentials
New parents will absolutely need lots of diapers for their baby. There’s plenty of changing to be made everyday. For that, giving baby diapers or changing essentials would be a great idea. Just make sure to pick diapers that are in larger sizes as babies grow fast; parents will soon use larger diapers for their infant. You may consider presenting a baby diaper cake as your baby shower gift for the mom-to-be. Diaper cakes are both practical and creative presents that one can give to an expectant woman. Making your own diaper cake is easy, but if you can’t then simply purchase online or at any place where the latter are available.
Baby wipes and rash creams are great add-ons to your baby shower gift. A diaper cream always come in handy for treating common diaper rash of babies. You may also consider a diaper pail where you can dispose used diapers, or other diaper disposal systems that you can provide to the mom-to-be. These are a few useful additions if you want to give baby changing supplies as a baby shower gift.
Other Useful Gifts
Other useful gifts you might want to consider include baby feeding supplies such as baby bottles, formula and other baby dishes. You may also think of giving pacifiers, teething toys or other soothing aid. Give a medical kit that contains thermometer, dropper, nasal aspirator and rash cream.
Practical baby gifts come in so many choices to choose from. If you want to shop easy and quick, consider shopping online. There is a myriad gift options that online stores can offer to people, from useful baby essentials, personalized baby books, nursery furnitures to unique baby gifts that can be a hit during baby showers.

Diaper Bags – Don’t Forget To Pack All This!

DIAPER BAGS – DON’T FORGET TO PACK ALL THIS!
Have you ever been out somewhere with the little darling and you reach into your bag, or whatever you may be using, only to realize that you don’t have what you need? Hopefully this short guide will help you avoid those moments of panic. If you are prepared for most situations that may arise both you and your baby are going to be happier.
Let’s start with the bottom end. Obviously you will need an ample supply of diapers. Figure at a minimum of one to two per hour of your outing. Along with that include a plastic bag for disposal of the dirtied ones. And of course you will need a supply of baby wipes. They can be purchased in travel packs that will fit nicely in your bag. You may also prefer to take your own changing pad. They work so much better than the back seat of your car or a park bench. And probably a whole lot more sanitary!
Now that we have taken care of what comes out we must deal with what will be needed to replenish the babe. Included will be milk/ water/ formula and solids. Don’t forget the containers and utensils for all.
You will also probably need a bib or two. And again more plastic bags for the dirtied ones.
A change of clothing from head to toe is also a definite must. Don’t forget a hat and gloves if the weather dictates such. It’s probably a good idea to throw an extra blanket in, it will come in handy when you least expect it to be needed.
Most often there are little side pockets on your diaper bag that will accommodate such items as medication, pacifiers, sanitary wipes, sun block and emergency phone numbers.
Last but not least you can throw a small toy or two in for entertainment purposes. And throw a snack in for yourself. You may still have room for a camera or a bottle of water for yourself also.
Of course the length of your trip will determine how much you need to pack. Remember most of the time it’s just a short time out and not a week long trip that you are packing for. I hope this may help you out and please be sure to enjoy your time with each other.

Preparing for your baby’s arrival
Posted by in Babies on January 18th, 2010
Having a baby is surely one of the most thrilling – and scariest – things that happens in the life of a young couple. You know it’s going to totally change your life; you just don’t realise quite how much until your baby arrives! Here are some things you can do now to prepare for the big day.
Get plenty of rest
You are unlikely to get much sleep the first few days / weeks / months of your baby’s life, and will soon become accustomed to snatching a few minutes whenever you can. So until then, make the most of the peace and quiet to get as much rest as you can.
Enjoy your partner’s company
Likewise, once your baby arrives, she’s going to demand most if not all of your energy, and for a while everything else will become secondary. So invest in your relationship with your partner now: go out for a meal or catch a movie, go for a walk together, make love, spend time with your friends.
Candidate names
You’ll likely be doing this already, but prepare a list of candidate names. Even if you’re convinced it’s going to be a boy, think about some girl’s names just in case, and vice versa. You also need to think about the thorny issue of whether you’re going to saddle her with Great Aunt Gertrude’s middle name or not, and whatever you decide, make sure you manage the grandparents’ expectations in this regard.
Equipment
Babies need a lot of stuff, it’s a fact. But as a first-time parent you’re unlikely to know what’s important and what you can do without. My advice is to stock up on the obvious things like nappies, baby wipes (surely one of the best materials ever invented!), a few changes of baby clothes, feeding bottles, and some infant formula if you’re not planning to breast feed. Apart from that, get a crib, car seat and baby bath, then see what you need once baby arrives. It’s quite likely you’ll be blessed / saddled with some hand-me-down stuff from friends and relatives, which could save you quite a bit of money.
Attend an ante-natal class
You’d be well advised to attend an ante-natal class to learn a bit about how to care for an infant. This should cover practical issues like how to bath your baby and change nappies, and also discuss the merits of bottle versus breast feeding, various sleep positions, etc. Apart from the educational aspect, these groups also often become informal support networks that continue to meet up once the babies have been born, and eventually evolve into playgroups for the youngsters as they grow up.
Read and discuss
Books, television and the internet also offer a wealth of information about all aspects of infant and childcare which can help you to know what to expect and how to deal with various situations that may arise. You don’t have to become Doctor Spock or anything, but would be well advised to learn as much as you can before the big day, rather than fumble along cluelessly when you’re sleep deprived after your baby is born.

A lot of people nowadays are into DIY’s, and you too can make a baby gift basket yourself. Making a homemade baby gift basket is actually pretty easy. When making your own gift basket, there is no need for you too spend too much, just be creative and practical. Make a budget beforehand and stick with it. Go beyond traditional ideas. For example, instead of using a common wicker basket, you may use a laundry basket, diaper bag, wagon, or a toy box as your container.
Think of a certain theme you want to show off on your gift basket. There are lots of theme ideas to choose from, and whatever theme you picked, make sure to really show it off by choosing fillers accordingly. Choose baby items that are both attractive and useful as fillers of your gift basket. Choices like baby clothes, blankets, feeding bottles, burp cloths, baby wipes, diapers, toys, rattles and baby mobiles are a few useful baby items you may consider to include in your basket. If you want to go lavish, you can think of a bigger present like a crib full of nursery supplies.
Make the basket personalized by including your own touches on it. Embellish the basket yourself, or you can make personalized tags, ribbons and bows at home. Craft stores are offering custom decorations such as personalized ribbons in different colors to choose from. Again, get creative but you don’t need to be an artist if that’s what you thought. Simplicity will always be a beauty, most especially if made by heart. Check out the Internet for some creative suggestions, tips and ideas when it comes to baby gifts. You can visit several sites that offer baby gifts such as personalized baby gifts baskets and even baby shower favors and other shower supplies.

Preparation For Upcoming Baby
Posted by in Pregnancy on January 2nd, 2010
A baby is coming. So, are you ready? Aside from thinking of a special name for the baby, what other preparations should you make?
First of all, you have to have a good obstetrician/gynecologist who will take care of you and your baby throughout your pregnancy. You can start looking for a good pediatrician at about this time, too. You will be doing a lot of medical check-ups before and after delivery, so check your health insurance coverage. If you are working, inform your company and inquire about your maternity leave and benefits.
Start preparing the baby’s room early on as you won’t have much time and energy for this later. Decide on the color scheme and work your way around that when choosing furniture, curtains, rugs, and other pieces. Start scouting around and compare costs and quality. Shop for the big items first like the crib or playpen with bassinet, stroller, storage cabinet, feeding chair, bath, and your nursing chair.
When you’re done with the big items, buy the small essentials. These are the feeding bottles, sterilizer, bedding, and the baby’s layette. Babies grow super fast so buy only a few clothes as these are outgrown in just a few weeks. Anyway, many people give baby clothes as gifts so there’s actually no need to worry. Better yet, if you’re having a baby shower, wait for it before shopping so you would know what and what not to buy.
And last but not least, prepare your hospital bag. This should include baby essentials such as two to three changes of clothing, diapers, baby wipes, going home clothes, receiving blanket, a cap, and bottles and formula if you’re not breastfeeding. For yourself, maternity pads or adult diapers (whichever you prefer), a bathrobe, pajamas or nightgown, house slippers, toiletries, nursing pads, some underwear, loose comfortable going home clothes, and your camera, of course!. Make sure you also have your health insurance card information with you. If you want, you may also bring extra pillows, a small cooler with drinks and some light snacks, and a baby book to record those first few moments.
It is exciting to have a baby in the house, but it is even more exciting when you are prepared.

Homemade Diaper Ointment
Posted by in Babies on October 31st, 2009
Your baby’s skin is very soft, sensitive, and delicate. Their sensitive skin can be prone to rashes from chemicals in soaps, lotions, or baby wipes. A very common rash that most babies will get is diaper rash. Using a diaper ointment can prevent or soothe the irritation caused from a rash. Choosing the best diaper ointment to stop the rash is very important because creams with harsh chemicals could make the rash worse and cause more discomfort to your baby. Natural baby products are the best to use on your baby because the ingredients are completely organic; they don’t have any chemicals or synthetic ingredients, and won’t harm your baby or their skin.
You can make your own natural ointment at home and control the ingredients you want to use. If you don’t have time to make your own ointment, you can always buy natural products that are guaranteed to be organic and chemical free. It can be a fun project to make homemade diaper rash cream, but if you don’t have the time or can’t find the ingredients you should always lean towards purchasing an organic baby product.
Most recipes from homemade diaper rash cream include some common ingredients such as almond oil, emu oil and kukui nut oil. Other ingredients you can use are: tea tree oil, water, jojoba oil, shea butter, avocado oil, or other types of oils depending on the recipe you want to follow. Making the ointment can be as easy as just combining the ingredients, while other recipes require that you heat the ingredients in a double boiler to combine. Some recipes are more time consuming and require that the ingredients sit in a sunny window for at least a week so that the ingredients can infuse together properly.
Using emu oil in homemade recipes is very common because of the healing powers the oil contains. It is used to cure anything from skin rashes to wrinkles to body pains. It is a moisturizing agent that is great for diaper rash and can be used for any type of dry skin. Emu oil is also used to treat acne, bruises, cuts, arthritis or other joint pain, scars, and wrinkles just to name a few.
Now that you know what is used in homemade ointments, you can look for these ingredients in natural products you want to buy for your baby if you don’t have the time or ingredients to make your own ointments. Buying natural products for you and your baby is the best alternative to making homemade remedies.
