Pregnancy Week 16 and Week 17

Women who are 16 weeks pregnant are well into their second trimester. Most have already overcome the worst of the morning sickness phase. They are now at the point of actually being able to enjoy pregnancy. In these next couple weeks, women find they are transforming almost as much as their unborn child. At 16 weeks pregnant, you can expect a number of things to occur in your body. At officially four months, your uterus will be stretching and expanding. The blotchy skin season has long since passed and you are simply glowing! People notice your beauty and developing tummy.

Women who are at least 16 weeks pregnant can expect to gain about 12 – 14 pound this month. Weight and a proper diet are definite concerns at this time. In this development period it is so important for expectant mothers to practice good eating habits. Having a healthy relationship with food, coupled with regular exercise, they can cruise through the rest of their pregnancy.

It shouldn’t be surprising that at 16 weeks pregnant, a mother would begin to feel the little flutter of baby movement. She isn’t the only one who is growing! Somewhere between weeks 16 and 18 women generally feel their babies move. Each case will be different though, some occurring earlier and others later.

Since eating well is paramount, it is important to focus on what exactly you’re diet includes. High calcium foods, like milk, are good choices for the development process. Also, keep fresh fruits handy to snack on, and do so frequently. Throughout the day, you may require a little something to carry you to the next meal time.

Those high calcium treats are really appreciated by your baby when you are 17 weeks pregnant. At this time in the second trimester, the skeletal system takes on a more structured appearance. This is solely because cartilage is now being replaced by bone. The joints are allowing for more flexible movement, which could result in kicking rather than fluttering.

The umbilical cord has also strengthened, in women 17 weeks pregnant. And your once tiny, baby, has put on some significant weight. Most, are now nearly 5 ounces big. The good nutrition of the mother allows this child to develop well, and right on time.

Women who are 17 weeks pregnant have a rather larger tummy now. In fact, many experience issues of feeling imbalanced when walking up or down stairs. It’s a good idea when issues like this arise to begin wearing low heeled shoes, to avoid falls or accidents. There are many changes to expect during this week.

Some will experience the beginning of some uncomfortable occurrences, particularly when trying to relax. Women have been known to have leg cramps, as well as, backaches. These produce restlessness and frequent changes in positioning. Sleep may become less fitful, and a little more work to achieve.

Despite some of the drawbacks of this stage of pregnancy, most expectant mothers have found a way to enjoy themselves. Actually seeing the changes in their bodies sparks expectation for the baby that will come months later.
